Sound Healing Certification

The first time you attend a sound healing session, you feel your shoulders drop and your breath slow, and something in you whispers: I want to offer this to others. At SomaEnergetics, we’ve walked beside sound healers since 2001, and our curriculum has grown from a seven-page handout into a nationally board-approved vibrational sound certification. What Is a Sound Healing Certification?

A vibrational sound certification is a structured pathway for learning to work with sound in relaxation, meditation, and spiritual practice. Training may cover sound principles, instruments, techniques, session practice, and responsible ways to bring sound into your journey. When the whisper grows louder, the Ultimate Sound Healing Bundle places forks in your palm and training at your pace.

Taking the jump to full certification is especially meaningful for those looking to start a career or side income as a sound therapist, massage therapist, Reiki practitioner, yoga teacher, meditation practitioner, and other holistic professionals who want to add sound to their practice. A question we get a lot from massage therapists: will this provide NCBTMB CEs? Yes and no. We do have a single OttoGlider class taught in-person in Cocoa Beach FL, but our core training does not offer NCBTMB CE hours for massage therapists. If you live in Florida, the Florida licensing board does allow a wider variety of course acceptance - please reach out for specific questions.

At SomaEnergetics, the curriculum was first formalized as a class in 2001, and over the years has grown into a certification approved by the Natural Therapies Certification Board (NTCB), built on hands-on vibrational sound and tuning-fork practice. If that calls to you, learn more about how to Become Certified and what is involved before deciding whether it aligns with your goals.

What You Learn in Sound Healing Training

Quality sound healing training gives you more than instructions on how to activate a tuning fork. It helps you understand your tools, practice structured techniques, and grow your skills step by step. SomaEnergetics offers options ranging from foundational self-study to advanced training linked to a certification pathway.

Depending on the course and level, training may help you develop:

  • Sound and frequency foundations: Feel how vibration and frequency work, and how tuning forks are used within sound-based practices.
  • Hands-on tuning fork techniques: Learn structured methods for activating and working with different tuning forks rather than relying on experimentation alone.
  • Progressive skills: Move from foundational techniques into more advanced practices as your experience develops.
  • Responsible practice: Learn a process for accepting clients, setting expectations, and working with sound thoughtfully, keeping wellness and spiritual practice distinct from medical care.

SomaEnergetics’ Digital Courses let you work through structured learning at your own pace. When you’re ready to go further, this foundation becomes part of your journey toward professional vibrational sound certification.

How to Become a Certified Sound Healer

If you want to become a certified sound healer, it helps to think of certification as a pathway rather than a single course. With SomaEnergetics, students can work toward Vibrational Sound certification through training completed online or in a live setting.

1. Begin with foundational training. Your journey starts with Phase 1, which introduces SomaEnergetics’ Energy Vitality Technique (EVT) and hands-on work with Solfeggio tuning forks. Occasionally, live Phase 1 classes are offered by Soma or our teachers across the globe. However, because of the flexibility and ease to begin, most people take Phase 1 as an online self-study. You complete video and manual coursework, an online test, and 10 documented in-person practice sessions. Suzanne S., an energy healer and holistic psychotherapist, calls her Solfeggio Energy Tuners “an incredible supplement and complement to my offerings.”

2. Build your skills through additional phases. The pathway moves through further vibrational sound coursework and hands-on practice across three phases. You can train in live classes or online self-study, making sound healing certification online an option when you need flexibility.

3. Complete the certification requirements. Vibrational Sound certification is nationally board-approved and issued through the Natural Therapies Certification Board, with SomaEnergetics providing the sound courses required toward that credential. Requirements vary by certification level, so review the complete pathway before enrolling.

It’s a structured route from fundamentals to lived experience, with room to continue into practitioner, coach, or teacher training.

Choosing the Right Sound Healing Certification Path

The right certification path depends on how you like to learn, the experience you already carry, and where you hope to take your practice. Before enrolling, sit with a few practical questions.

Do you prefer online or live training?

Soma offers online self-study, online live trainings, live in-person trainings, and replays of our online live trainings. Online self-study learning lets you move at your own pace, while live in-person training immerses you in practicing techniques and learning alongside others. SomaEnergetics offers both, and students who take a live class get the self-study version of the same class at 50% off, and the reverse is also true. Soma currently does not offer live in-person trainings very often**,** so most elect to begin online. We do, however, have a frequent schedule of live online trainings and workshops, so check Upcoming Trainings if hands-on, instructor-led learning calls to you.

Do you already have the tools you need?

Some SomaEnergetics training options pair education with professional tuning forks, so you build your toolkit as you learn to use it. Soma forks are made in the USA from American aluminum, machined from billet stock, hand-tuned and re-tested twice, and designed with longer handles than competitors (2.5 to 3 inches) for comfortable hands-on use. We also offer a wide range of important accessory items such as practitioner aprons, activators, stands, pendulums, crystals, chimes to enhance your environment and your tunings.

How far do you want to take your training?

Your goal may be personal study, adding sound to your existing holistic journey, or progressing toward vibrational sound certification. Look at the complete pathway first, so you choose a starting point that matches where you want to go.

If your path includes tuning forks, SomaEnergetics’ lifetime guarantee against manufacturer defects and free shipping on qualifying U.S. orders over $199 are worth considering.

What Comes After Sound Healing Certification?

Certification marks a milestone, and applying what you’ve learned is where the practice keeps unfolding. Some graduates bring sound into massage, Reiki, yoga, meditation, or other holistic settings, while others keep studying or simply deepen their personal practice.

Experience grows through consistent practice and connection with others in the field. SomaEnergetics’ Locate a Practitioner directory lists certified practitioners, so you can see how this work lives in different communities.

Continued learning can be just as valuable as the credential itself. You can also learn more about Soma, the people behind the brand, and the community-centered approach that shapes our sound healing education. And as you practice, let the quiet after each tone teach you, because that’s where so much integration happens.

DISCLAIMER: This article is for educational purposes and is not medical advice. Many practitioners use tuning forks in their healing work, but they're best viewed as tools for relaxation, meditation, and spiritual growth, not a substitute for professional medical care.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Beginners are welcome, and a foundational course lets you build practical skills at a gentle pace before more advanced training, though individual courses may have prerequisites.

This is a tough question to answer, because it’s really for you to decide. We recommend taking at least a few months to allow yourself time for the information and practice work to integrate into the real world. Most people take 1-2 years to walk the entire certification pathway; a relaxed pace would result in your Certified Vibrational Sound Practitioner (CVSP) certification around year one, and your Certified Vibrational Sound Coach (CVSC) around year two. Intrepid students can do everything in 3-3-6 months, but we recommend not feeling rushed in this important work and giving yourself enough time to absorb the depth of the techniques along the way.

Yes. Online sound healing certification can include self-paced coursework, assessments, and documented practice requirements. Check the specific pathway requirements, since a single online course doesn’t automatically confer a professional credential. However, keep in mind that you will have 10 practice sessions with each phase which must be completed by you, in-person. Friends, family, and current clients are all great ways to get this experience.

No. Sound healing certification is not a medical license and doesn’t qualify you to provide medical care. Practitioners work within their professional scope and speak plainly about sound as a tool for relaxation, meditation, and spiritual growth.

Training may appeal to beginners, massage therapists, Reiki practitioners, yoga teachers, meditation practitioners, sound healers, acupuncturists, reflexologists, energy healers, and other holistic professionals who want to bring sound into their work.

That depends on the course. Practical training may require specific forks to practice the techniques being taught. Generally speaking, high-quality U.S.-made forks of other brands can be substituted for the equivalent Soma fork. Cheaper imported forks are plentiful and can work for training purposes, but we don’t recommend them for more serious practitioner work for several reasons.
