Otto 128 Hz Tuning Fork

The Otto 128 Hz is the classic weighted body tuner: tap it, press the stem onto a bone, muscle, or acupressure point, and feel a deep, calming vibration travel through the body. Studies have shown its ability to stimulate nitric oxide production, increase the effectiveness of acupressure points, and down-regulate the nervous system. It is frequently reported to be therapeutic when used on muscles and fascia for tension release and pain management.

On the body (bones, ligaments, acupressure points)

1. Set a positive intention for your session and take a deep inhale and exhale before you begin.
2. With the finger or thumb of your free hand, locate the spot on the body where you want to place the tuning fork.
3. Hold the fork by the stem and gently tap the weights on a soft part of your body such as palm, thigh, or shoulder, or on a rubber activator, puck, or mallet. The fork can also be activated by squeezing the weights together with thumb and forefinger and letting go.
4. Press the end of the stem onto the spot and make firm contact.
5. Hold the tuning fork until you feel the vibrations stop.

For listening

1. Hold one or two 128 Otto Tuners (or a 128 + 64 pair) by the stems and activate them as above.
2. Hold one fork about an inch from your left ear and one an inch from the right ear, or a single fork moved from one ear to the other over the head.
3. Adjust the distance by tone. This creates a long, sustained low pitch, excellent for grounding and relaxation.

With the Soma Glider Boot (recommended)

The Glider Boot attaches permanently to the end of the stem, so once it is on, your fork is always ready to glide.

1. Activate the fork as above.
2. Place the boot on the body and glide slowly over tissue, meridians, and acupressure points.
3. Pause to gently massage into muscles, tension, hotspots, and pain areas.
4. Re-tap when the vibration fades.

Where to use it. All Otto forks can be used over the entire body, guided by your intuition. Traditionally, the 128 is thought of with a focus on the ribs, head, thoracic vertebrae, sternum and ilium. With the Soma Glider Boot, you can glide from point to point instead of lifting and replacing the fork.

A fork with history. The tuning fork was invented by John Shore in 1711, and the 128Hz (C note A432 Hz) is among the oldest, most widely produced, and most scientifically studied tuning forks in human history. Tuned to the older A432Hz "natural" scale, this tuning fork is lauded for its uses in the medical field, sound healing, meditation, and body work.

Why Otto Tuners feel different. The Otto Tuners vibrate at a low pitch, and due to their weighted ends the sound lasts longer than that of regular tuning forks; the sound vibrates into the bones for relaxation. Their frequencies are based on an 8 Hz fundamental tone raised in octaves (8 Hz, 16 Hz, 32 Hz, 64 Hz, 128 Hz). The 8 Hz fundamental, which is based on the pulsation of the planet earth (the Schumann resonance, about 7.83 Hz), is the generating tone for many of our tuning forks.

The Otto family. Combined with the two lower octaves, 32 Hz and 64 Hz, you can choose which level of tone and body depth you'll be working with. Traditionally, the 64 is focused on the lower lumbar vertebrae, sacrum and coccyx, and the 32 on the skin and hair to stimulate nerves.
