On the body (skin, bones, ligaments, acupressure points)

1. Set a positive intention for your session and take a deep inhale and exhale before you begin.
2. With the finger or thumb of your free hand, locate the spot on the body where you want to place the tuning fork.
3. Hold the fork by the stem and gently tap the body (the weighted portion) on a soft part of your body such as palm, thigh, or shoulder, or on a rubber activator, puck, or mallet. This will set the weights in motion and create a pure tone. The fork can also be activated by squeezing the weights together with thumb and forefinger and letting go.
4. Press the end of the stem onto the spot and make firm contact. With newer scar tissue, we generally recommend working just around the scar rather than directly on it.
5. Hold the tuning fork until you feel the vibrations stop. 1-3 activations per point.

If there are injured areas the fork should be used closely adjacent to those areas rather than directly on them. The vibrations are strong enough to affect the injured area from nearby.

For listening

Use the 72 on its own, or pair it with an Otto 64 for a binaural beat at the ears or on the body.

1. Hold the 72 Otto Tuner (or the 72 and a 64) by the stem and activate as above.
2. On its own: move the fork slowly from one ear to the other over the head. With a 64: hold one fork about an inch from your left ear and the other an inch from your right ear.
3. Adjust the distance by tone. With the 64 + 72 pair, the 8 Hz difference between the two forks is perceived as a gentle, slow pulse: a binaural beat.

With the Soma Glider Boot (recommended)

1. Activate the fork as above.
2. Place the boot on the body and glide slowly over tissue, meridians, and acupressure points.
3. Pause to gently massage into muscles, tension, hotspots, and pain areas.
4. Re-tap when the vibration fades.

Where to use it. All Otto forks can be used over the entire body, guided by your intuition. The 72hz Otto Tuning Fork can be used on acupressure points and meridians and really any point on the body. A different note. Unlike the 32, 64 and 128 Hz, which are octaves of the 8 Hz fundamental, the 72 Hz is harmonically within the A=432Hz scale at two octaves below 288Hz. In that scale the 64 Hz is a C and the 72 Hz is a D, a whole tone apart.

The 64 + 72 binaural beat. The 72 Hz is 8 Hz above the 64 Hz. With one fork at each ear, the brain hears that difference as an 8 Hz binaural beat: the Otto family fundamental, near the earth's Schumann resonance (7.83 Hz), at the theta–alpha border linked to relaxed, meditative states. It works on the body too, one fork on each side, since all nerves feed the brain.

Tuned to the 432 scale. Like all Otto Tuners, the 72 is tuned to the older A432Hz "natural" scale. 72 divides evenly into 432 (6 × 72 = 432), and two octaves up it becomes 288 Hz, the D in that scale.

Why Otto Tuners feel different. The Otto Tuners vibrate at a low pitch, and due to their weighted ends the sound lasts longer than that of regular tuning forks; the sound vibrates into the bones for relaxation. Their frequencies are based on an 8 Hz fundamental tone raised in octaves (8 Hz, 16 Hz, 32 Hz, 64 Hz, 128 Hz). The 8 Hz fundamental, which is based on the pulsation of the planet earth (the Schumann resonance, about 7.83 Hz), is the generating tone for many of our tuning forks.
